MOONSHIP LOG WINTER 2008/2009 |
||
Greetings from the Moonship! It has been a very exciting year on the ship, and our adventures have taken us far and wide! We have continued to delight audiences of young and old with our touring shows. We performed at numerous libraries and were excited to be invited to perform at the NOBS showcase, for the association of Children's Librarians North of Boston. We brought 2 different shows to our new favorite performance space, Springfield Museums, home of the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden. We also performed for the first time at Children's Museum of Easton, for their pirate day. Entire families were dressed like pirates! Our explorations also took us to Guatemala, where we were excited to play at the SUPER FIESTA, in Xela. WE translated many of our pirate favorites into Spanish, and even managed to borrow a beautiful antique accordion for the show!

Our band, The Scallywags, continues to thrill with our own musical version of raucous High Piracy. We had a wild and wonderful time playing for the second year at Gulu-Gulu in Salem on Halloween. We were also pleased as rum punch to lead not one, but TWO pirate parades through the streets of Jamaica Plain for JP Main Street's First Thursday event and Artist's Ball.
On the festival front, we have been very busy! Jenn coordinated the Children's Activities at the Wake up the Earth festival for the 4th year. She also directed the circus preshows and parades for Revels SummersDay and RiverSing. Take a look at photos posted on Flickr by Revels and a talented spectator. She also had a great time parading through the streets at HONK FEST with a new all female accordion ensemble, Brigada Accordianista. |

On the art front, Jason has been productive and prolific as usual. he continues to fashion his beautiful collages, and has painstakingly created a set of Mayan Day Glyph collages(begun on the first day of the Mayan new year in Chichen Itza, Mexico), which will be available soon as cards. He has also released his first book of collages and poems through Lulu, a self publishing site. If you have not seen or purchased this book yet check it out by way of his website It is an evocative and beautiful collection of art that spans 15 years. And it is only volume 1! Volume 2 will be coming soon! We also plan to publish Children's book versions of the Four Colors Celebration and Dardragon and the 3 Hills. Stay tuned!
We have kept our promise to develop an educational program, and Jenn has teamed up with Ruckus Muckus to form STARMA, a physical theater and circus arts program for elementary school students. We taught our first session in Winter Hill this past fall and are looking forward to a new session with more schools and students!

Phew!! What a year! Lastly, but certainly not leastly, in our second year of existence, we wish to thank everyone who has supported us and helped us to achieve our dream of a unique production company. From the librarians who invite us to perform and the hundreds of volunteers who help to make our festival performances a reality, to the schools and venues that take a chance with our unique style of interactive theater we extend our deeepest gratitude and appreciation.
The Moonship is a shoestring operation, funded(for now!)entirely through our own perseverence and dedication. If you happen to be a millionaire looking for a great project to support, or a savvy grantwriter looking to use those skills, or a performer without an outlet, we would love to hear from you!! Feedback, inquiries, comments and thoughts of the day are always welcome here We look forward with excitement to the new year from our ship's dock, a mere 3 blocks from Obama's old apartment!
Blessings and Light to all, Jenn and Jason, Moonship Captains
