Tracks 9-10 Push Push, to the Bellyfull Cafe

Bus Station Pirates! Love FM

The story behind this song is one of the best we bring back with us from Belize! In every new place you go, there
are important lessons to learn that are essential to survival in a new environment.
We learned this valuable lesson our first day in the Belmopan bus station, from Radiance Thompson.
Belmopan was the closest "town" to the Bellyfull Cafe-we had gone to buy some groceries and take care of
Jason's passport issues.

We were ready to go back to Bellyfull and went to catch our bus. The Belmopan Bus Station is an active place-taxi
drivers have one-liners to try to persuade you to go with them, people are selling everything from incense to bathroom passes.
It is the Grand Central of Belize and people are crowded together waiting to go everywhere in the country.

When we came into the station our eyes and ears were immediately drawn to a woman who was selling homemade
bread pudding and drinks at a counter. She wore a sparkly santa hat.(This is a week before Thanksgiving, mind you, but since
they don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Belize, the Christmas season had already started)

She sang with her loud clear voice, across the station "Hellloooo Everybodee, How are you today? It is Christmas Time!"
We fell in love instantly, and went towards her, smiling. She smiled back and said in her low Caribbean voice,
"How are you, Tourists? Everything Good?" We answered yes, now that we had heard her sing. We talked a bit, and bought a
drink and the announcement came for our bus. So we got in line-we were the first! Then we felt a tap on our shoulders and the
2 girls behind us said, "Excuse Us"-We stepped out of the way and they stepped DIRECTLY in front of us in line!
Radiance called from her counter, "Oh, No, Tourists! Don't be nice! You have to Push Push Push if you want to get on the
bus!"

Well, polite habits are hard to break and by the time we got ON the bus we were last in line, and Radiance's voice echoed in
our head-"Push Push Push!"

We were so inspired we wrote a song! A week later we went back and sang it for her and then, finally, the last day in Belmopan
we recorded it right there in the bus station with her!

We brought the recording to Love FM, the Belize National Radio Station, in Belize City. We then found out Radiance is known
THROUGHOUT Belize for her silver voice. She had been a judge many times on the televised Karaoke Competitions.
Belize's own Central American Idol!

The outro of Push Push is recorded at MJ's, in Belize City, where we found the ONLY live music-a reggae band called,
appropriately, MJ's Vibrations. We used our piratical tactics to convince them to play the song with us.
They even let Jason play the six string bass!

We hope that this song lives on in Belize. We had several people assure us they would call LOVE FM to request the song.
We also hope it helps tourists in Belize Push Push and finally Mash Mash!

We Love You Radiance and Belize!
